German engineering magazine ingenieurblatt features OostCampus on the cover of its current issue (Nr. 3/2015, 2015-09-16). The lead article inside: Sustainable Renovation: An important resource for the design of our environment, is an abstract of a lecture given by Professor Renigard Baron, of the IÖB, the Institute of Public Buildings, presenting OostCampus as a case study. ECOLA Awards

ECOLA, the European Conference of Leading Architects, have announced their two-yearly Award for the use of plaster and rendering in Architecture.
Our work OostCampus has received the Special Mention in the Renovation category.

149 projects from 16 European countries had been pre-selected by an international nomination jury, in two categories: Renovation and New Building. The nominated architects include Aires Mateus, Snøhetta, Baumschlager Eberle, Cino Zucchi.

The final jury session, presided by Sir Peter Cook, took place in Berlin on 8 May 2015, and selected the following Winners of the ECOLA-Award:

Centre Pompidou acquires four of our models

Hoy ha llegado una carta de París, para informarnos de que el Comité de Adquisiciones del Centro Pompidou, en su sesión del 11.03.2015 ha aceptado "por unanimidad y con entusiasmo" la propuesta, guiada por la curadora Valentina Moimas, de adquirir para su colección cuatro maquetas y un conjunto de dibujos de nuestra obra OostCampus. Las maquetas, dibujos y planos formarán parte de una exposición que se celebrará después del verano.

A letter arrived from Paris today, to let us know that the Acquisition Committee of the Centre Pompidou in its session of 2015/03/11 accepted "unanimously and appreciatively" the proposal, guided by curator Valentina Moimas, to acquire four models and a set of drawings of our work OostCampus for their  Collection. The works will be part of an exhibition to be held after the summer.

Another award for the OostCampus team!!!

Otro premio para el equipo OostCampus! Jan Compernol CEO de la ciudad de Oostkamp y Tom Vandenberghe secretario general de los servicios sociales de Oostkamp OCMW estuvieron en el Parlamento Flamenco de Bruselas el pasado jueves (30 Ene 2014) para recibir conjuntamente el premio "Líder Público del Año", por su visión al unir a todos los servicios de la ciudad en un solo entorno transparente, eficiente, fácil de usar.

Nuestro proyecto de arquitectura es la implementación de su visión política.

Felicidades Jan y Tom!! Gracias por vuestra visión!

Este premio va normalmente a ministros, altos funcionarios de la UE o de grandes ciudades como Amberes y es significativo que vaya a una pequeña entidad local; OostCampus se está convirtiendo en una construcción política de referencia!

Another award for the OostCampus team!!! Jan Compernol CEO of the City of Oostkamp and Tom Vandenberghe General Secretary of Oostkamp's social services OCMW were in Brussels's Flemish Parliament last Thursday (30 Jan 2014) to jointly receive the "Public Leader of the Year" award, for their vision to unite all services of the city into a single transparent, efficient, user-friendly environment.

Our architectural project is the implementation of their political vision.

Congratulations Jan and Tom!! Thank you for your vision! 

This award usually goes to Ministers, EU officials or big cities like Antwerp - it is remarkable to see it going to a small local authority - which shows that OostCampus is becoming a benchmark political construction!  

Nóg een onderscheiding voor het OostCampus team!!! Jan Compernol, Gemeentesecretaris van Oostkamp en Tom Vandenberghe, Secretaris van het OCMW Oostkamp, ontvingen vorige donderdag (30 Jan 2014) in Het Vlaams Parlement de prijs voor “Overheidsmanager van het jaar”. Dit voor hun visie om alle stadsdiensten onder te brengen in één transparante, efficiënte en gebruiksvriendelijke omgeving.
Ons architecturaal project is de verwezelijking van hun politieke visie. Onze felicitaties voor Jan en Tom! Ook dank voor jullie visie!
Deze onderscheiding wordt meestal uitgereikt aan Ministers, afgevaardigden van de EU of grote steden zoals Antwerpen. Het is dan ook opmerkelijk om te zien hoe het deze keer aan een kleine lokale overheid werd uitgereikt, wat aantoont dat Oostcampus een nieuwe maatstaf aan het worden is voor politieke constructies!

Productive Landscape in OostCampus now maintained by sheep

¡Han llegado las ovejas a OostCampus! Este Paisaje Productivo es un parque, recorrido peatonal y vía ciclista construido con materiales reciclados, en convivencia con los terrenos de almacenamiento y gestión de material de construcción de obras públicas, drenaje y captación de agua... y finalmente la hierba se ha asentado suficiente para que un pequeño rebaño de 20 ovejas se haga cargo de su mantenimiento. The sheep have arrived!!!! OostCampus Park is an energy producing park, built with recycled materials. Park activities, cycle and pedestrian lanes coexist in harmony with yards for storage, the management of construction material, water drainage and harvesting... and finally the grass is maintained by 20 sheep.
At the end of this year there will be an "evaluation session". More info in our website and a news piece here.

El Ministerio Flamenco de Igualdad de Oportunidades y su iniciativa La Semana del Diseño Universal incluyó el pasado jueves una visita a OostCampus.
La multisensorialidad del edificio y la accesibilidad "natural", que no sólo hace fácil a todo el mundo moverse por él, sino que lo hace evitando dispositivos y marcas estigmatizadoras, fue subrayada en una serie de presentaciones por los expertos en accesibilidad (y arquitectos) Peter-Willem Vermeersch de la KU Leuven y Bart Vermandere de Westkans. 

The Flemish Ministry of Equal Opportunities initiative The Week of Universal Design included last Thursday a visit to OostCampus. 
The multisensoriality in the building and the "natural" accessibility that not only makes it easy for everyone to get around, but does so avoiding any stigma-loaded devices and marks, was emphasised in presentations by accessibility experts (and architects) Peter-Willem Vermeersch of KU Leuven and Bart Vermandere of Westkans.

In the finals for the Building of the Year Awards 2012

Two of our works were nominated for the Archdaily Building of the Year Awards 2012.

Five finalists were shortlisted per category, out of a total of 2.700 entrants from all over the world.

• OostCampus was in the final selection of Public Facilities.
• Academie MWD was among the five nominated Cultural Buildings.

The nomination and the final decision were the result of a collective intelligence process, an unprecedented world-scale voting system open to all.

We thank everyone who supported either project, getting us to the finals. We did not make it past that point, but we had fun!
Our congratulations to the winners, BIG (Bjarke Ingels Group) and partners Topotek and Superflex, as well as Ingarden & Ewý Architects.

 

OostCampus Official Opening !!

La inauguración oficial de OostCampus está programada para el viernes, 15 de junio de 2012. El sábado, 16 de junio y Domingo, 17 de junio, hay días de visita para los vecinos del municipio. Si el tiempo lo permite, habrá una fiesta al aire libre en la noche del sábado (Volksfeest). La reubicación de los servicios administrativos se realizará del viernes 29 de junio al domingo 1 de julio. El lunes 2 de julio, OosCampus estará en pleno funcionamiento.

The official opening of OostCampus is scheduled for Friday, June 15th 2012. On Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17, there are visiting days for the residents of the municipality; weather permitting, this will include an open air party on Saturday evening (Volksfeest). The relocation of the administrative services will be held from Friday 29 June to Sunday 1 July. On Monday 2 July, OosCampus will be in full function.

De officiële opening van OostCampus is voorzien voor vrijdag 15 juni 2012. Op zaterdag 16 juni en zondag 17 juni zijn er bezoekdagen voor de inwoners van de gemeente; ook een open lucht Volksfeest op zaterdagavond, als het weer het toelaat. De verhuis van de administratieve diensten vindt plaats van vrijdag 29 juni t.e.m. zondag 1 juli. Op maandag 2 juli gaat de dienstverlening in OosCampus effectief van start.

Nuestro proyecto OostCampus, para el Ayuntamiento y Centro Cívico de Oostkamp (Bélgica), cuya construcción está a punto de concluir, ha recibido el premio Holcim Silver Award for Sustainable Construction in Europe 2011
Los premios de la Holcim Foundation, gestionados en Europa por la ETH de Zurich, se otorgan a proyectos en proceso de realización, en cada uno de los cinco continentes. La solvencia académica de sus target issues –establecidos por las mejores universidades, MIT, ETH, Tonjii, etc – la composición del jurado –desde especialistas de las universidades participantes hasta figuras como Lacaton y Vassal, Winnie Maas (MvRdV), BIG, o Jurgen Mayer– el estricto proceso de selección –pilotado desde Berlín por phase eins– la cuantia de los premios –un total de 2.000.000 US$- y la cantidad y variedad de proyectos en competición –más de 6000 en todo el mundo– , sitúan a estos premios como los más prestigiosos del planeta.

The results of the third edition of the Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction in Europe were anounced in Milan on the 15th September 15 of 2011. This is an international competition to highlight sustainable, future-oriented concepts and innovative projects. We climbed to the podium with our design for the City Hall and Civic Centre OostCampus, to collect the silver medal.
Now you have a chance to visit the building site (the bubbles are now finished!) in an event organized by the Flemish Architects Association NAV, with Holcim Foundation, the City of Oostkamp, and the contractor CEI de Meier. Click here for more info (in Dutch).

Op 15 september 2011 werden in Milaan voor de derde keer de Holcim Awards for Europe uitgereikt. Dit is een internationale wedstrijd die duurzame ontwikkeling, toekomstgerichte concepten en innovatieve projecten in de verf zet. De Spaanse architect Carlos Arroyo is met het ontwerp voor het Bestuurs- en Dienstencentrum OostCampus in de prijzen gevallen. Hij won de zilveren medaille op die prestigieuze Holcim Awards for Sustainable Construction.

OostCampus Park: construction started

The construction works of our Park in Oostkamp have started!!
It is a productive park, built with recycled materials. Park activities, cycle and pedestrian lanes coexist in harmony with yards for storage and the management of construction material. It is adjacent to our other site in Ooskamp (Belgium), OostCampus. A European MP4 Interreg Project, developed with ELD Partnership (Antwerp) and VLM (the Flemish Government Landscape Agency).

OostCampus first bubble!!!

El pasado día 11 de Junio (de 2011) se inauguró la "primera burbuja" de OostCampus. El evento sustituye la tradicional ceremonia de la "primera piedra", que en este proyecto no tendría sentido. Es además el primer ensayo in-situ del sistema constructivo, con la combinación de burbujas de GRG y módulos de estructura ligera sobre núcleos duros exagonales.
Las obras comenzaron el 21 de Febrero de este año, y según el programa de obra terminarán en Marzo del 2012.
Google Translator permite a quién no entienda neerlandés intuir el contenido del discurso del alcalde, y de la noticia del evento según quedó recogida por la prensa.
La fotografía que ilustra estas líneas, que fue tomada el siguiente martes (14 de Junio), ya transmite la magia de este paisaje interior de nubes blancas.

On June 11th (2011) the "first bubble" in OostCampus was inaugurated. The event replaces the traditional ceremony of the "first stone", which would be meaningless in this project.
It is also the first in-situ testing of the construction system, a combination of GRG bubbles and weightless modular clusters supported by solid hexagonal cores.
Construction began on February 21 of this year, and according to the work program it will be finished in March 2012.
Google Translator can help non-Dutch speakers understand the contents of the speech delivered by the Mayor on the occasion, and the news of the event as was reflected by the press.
The picture above, taken the following week on 14th June, already captures the magic of this interior landscape of white clouds.

Op 11 juni (2011) werd de "eerste bubble" van OostCampus ingehuldigd. Het evenement vervangt de traditionele ceremonie van de "eerste steen", wat zinloos zou zijn in dit project.
Het is ook de eerste in-situ test van het bouw-systeem, een combinatie van GRG bubbels en gewichtloze modulaire clusters die worden ondersteund door sterke zeshoekige kernen.
De bouw begon op 21 februari van dit jaar, en zal volgens het werkprogramma worden afgewerkt in maart 2012.
Google Translator kan helpen bij niet-Nederlandse sprekers om de inhoud van de toespraak van de burgemeester ter gelegenheid te begrijpen, en het nieuws van het evenement zoals weerspiegeld door de pers.

OostCampus: construction begins

Luc Vanparys, alcalde de Oostkamp, presidió el jueves (27-01-2011) la reunión para iniciar oficialmente la construcción de nuestro proyecto OostCampus, el nuevo Ayuntamiento y Centro Cívico de este municipio de Flandes Occidental (Bélgica).
La estrella de la reunión fue un modelo a escala de las burbujas (1:10), presentado por el contratista CEI de Meyer, una de las mayores empresas de la construcción en Bélgica. El modelo fue producido con el mismo material y tecnología que se empleará en la realidad, GRG yeso reforzado con fibra de vidrio. Cada burbuja del modelo está en una fase distinta del proceso de acabado.

Luc Vanparys, the Mayor of Oostkamp, presided on Thursday (27-Jan-2011) the kick-start meeting for the construction of our project OostCampus, the new City Hall and Civic Centre for this municipality in West Flanders (Belgium).
A scale model (1:10) of the bubble construction was presented by the contractor – CEI de Meyer, one of the largest building companies in Belgium. The model was produced with the same material and technology as the real thing, GRG Glass Reinforced Gypsum. Each bubble is in a different stage of finishing, showing the process.

OostCampus: constructie begint.
Luc Vanparys, de Burgemeester van Oostkamp, zat donderdag de kick-start meeting voor ter constructie van ons project OostCampus, het nieuwe Bestuurs- en Dienstencentrum voor de gemeente te West-Vlaanderen (België).
Een schaalmodel (1:10) van de bubbel constructie werd door de aannemer voorgesteld - CEI de Meyer, één van de grootste bouwbedrijven in België.
Het model werd uitgevoerd in hetzelfde materiaal en technologie als het werkelijke, GRG Glass Reinforced Gypsum. Elke bubbel is in een andere staat van afwerking, ter illustratie van het proces.

Project Presentations

Mañana a las 13:30 Vanessa Cerezo hará una presentación de nuestro proyecto OostCampus, Ayuntamiento y Centro Cívico de Oostkamp (Bélgica) en CIBARQ 2010 - IV Congreso Internacional de Arquitectura, Ciudad y Energía - que tendrá lugar en Pamplona. El proyecto forma parte de la exposición que acompaña al evento, como anunciamos anteriormente.

Asimismo, el 7 de octubre Carmina Casajuna participó en el debate Mesas de Arquitectura Plus Sostenible celebrado en Madrid y organizado por el Grupo Vía. Próximamente podremos ver aquí la publicación del evento, en el que Carmina explicó nuestros criterios y prácticas de sostenibilidad.

Tomorrow at 13:30 Vanessa Cerezo will give a presentation of our project OostCampus, Oostkamp's City Hall and Civic Center in CIBARQ 2010 - IV International Congress of Architecture, City and Energy - that will take place in Pamplona (Spain). Het project wordt ook getoond in de hoofdtentoonstelling van het evenement, zoals we eerder aangekondigd.

Ook op 7 oktober heeft Carmina Casajuna deelgenomen aan het debat Mesas de Arquitectura Plus Sostenible in Madrid, georganiseerd door Grupo Vía. Binnenkort zullen we hier een publicatie van het evenement zien, waar Carmina onze werkwijze en criteria toegelicht heeft voor duurzaamheid.

Fresh 2010

Mañana se inaugura en Matadero Madrid la exposición comisariada por Ariadna Cantis Fresh 2010, una selección de diferentes estudios madrileños con ideas arriesgadas y propositivas, donde se incluyen algunos de nuestros proyectos como Aves de paso, Oostcampus o TSM3. Simultáneamente a este evento se inaugurará el site oficial de Fresh que podrás ver pinchando aquí.

Fresh 2010, an exhibition curated by Ariadna Cantis that puts together different offices from Madrid with risky and purposeful ideas, opens tomorrow in Matadero Madrid. OostCampus CIBARQ 2010

Nuestro proyecto Ayuntamiento y centro cívico en Oostkamp, Bélgica, ha sido seleccionado mediante concurso para formar parte de la Exposición de Experiencias y Proyectos CIBARQ 2010 Low Carbon Cities que tendrá lugar en el Auditorio Baluarte de Pamplona.

Our project for the City Hall and Civic Center in Oostkamp, Belgium, has been selected in a competition to be a part of the Experiences and Projects Exhibition of CIBARQ 2010 Low Carbon Cities that will be held at the Baluarte Auditorium in Pamplona (Spain).

Oostcampus in Habitat Futura

Nuestro proyecto Oostcampus, un nuevo Ayuntamiento y Centro Cívico en la ciudad belga de Oostkamp ha sido publicado en la revista Habitat Futura.

Our project Oostcampus, a new City Hall and Civic Center in Oostkamp (Belgium), has been published in Habitat Futura magazine.

Participation Workshop

Nuestro cuarto proyecto de la serie Paisajes Productivos (OostCampus Buitenaanleg), un parque de energía construido con material reciclado, con recorridos peatonales y vías ciclistas en convivencia con los terrenos de almacenamiento y gestión de material de construcción de la ciudad de Oostkamp (Bélgica), se presentó públicamente el 1 de Diciembre pasado en De Valkaart, Beukenpark, bajo los auspicios de la Agencia del Paisaje del Gobierno de Flandes, VLM.
Los agentes implicados, habitantes y empresarios vecinos participaron en una sesión de trabajo para evaluar el primer borrador de proyecto, aportar sus ideas, y manifestar sus inquietudes e intereses.

Al día siguiente continuó la sesión con un taller en que los representantes de Sheffield, Edimburgo, Goteborg, Emmen, Copenhague y Hamburgo aportaron sugerencias y experiencias, tanto para el diseño como para la metodología de implementación.

Our fourth project in the Productive Landscapes series (OostCampus Buitenaanleg), an energy producing park built with recycled materials, where park activities and cycle and pedestrian lanes coexist in harmony with the yards for storage and management of construction material in Oostkamp (Belgium), was publicly presented on last Dec. 1st in De Valkaart, Beukenpark, under the auspices of the Flemish Government’s Landscape Agency, VLM.
Residents, partners and neighbouring businesses participated in a workshop to evaluate the first draft of the project, contribute with their ideas and express their concerns and interests.
The session was also attended by partner Cities and Universities of the European program Making Places Profitable MP4, which will finance 50% of the budget. On the following day the workshop continued at VLM’s headquarters in Bruges, where representatives from Sheffield, Edinburgh (UK), Gothenburg (S), Emmen (NL), Copenhagen (DK) and Hamburg (D) contributed with ideas and expertise for both the design and the implementation methods.

Ons vierde project in de productieve landschappen serie (OostCampus Buitenaanleg), een energieproducerend park gebouwd met gerecycleerde materialen, waar park-activiteiten en fiets-en voetgangers rijstroken naast elkaar bestaan in harmonie met het werven voor de opslag en het beheer van bouwmateriaal in Oostkamp (België), werd in het openbaar gepresenteerd op de laatste 1 december in De Valkaart, Beukenpark, onder leiding van de Vlaamse Landmaatschappij, VLM.
Bewoners, partners en naburige bedrijven die deelgenomen hebben aan een workshop ter evaluatie van het eerste ontwerp van het project, leveren een bijdrage met hun ideeën en uiten hun zorgen en belangen.
De vergadering werd ook bijgewoond door partner Steden en Universiteiten van de Europese programma Making Places Profitable MP4, die voor 50% van de begroting. Op de volgende dagen ging de workshop op het hoofdkantoor van VLM in Brugge door, waar vertegenwoordigers uit Sheffield, Edinburgh (UK), Göteborg (S), Emmen (NL), Kopenhagen (DK) en Hamburg (D) droeg met ideeën en expertise voor zowel het ontwerp- en de implementatie-methoden.
