OostCampus, Biennale di Venezia

Es oficial, nuestra obra OostCampus formará parte de la 14a Bienal de Arquitectura de Venecia. En esta ocasión, el director Rem Koolhaas ha propuesto un tema que da prioridad a los Fundamentos de la Arquitectura, en lugar de celebrar a los propios arquitectos. Palabras como "piso", "techo", "pasillo", "ascensor" establecen las directrices para cada parte de la exposición, centrada en el Arsenale, pero también alojada en los pabellones nacionales, la mayoría de los cuales unen a fuerzas por primera vez con el fin de producir un todo coherente. OostCampus formará parte de "interior", comisariada por Iñaki Abalos (Director de Arquitectura en Harvard GSD) y albergada en el pabellón español.
La 14 ª Bienal se podrá visitar desde el sábado 7 de junio al domingo 23 de noviembre de 2014, en los Giardini y el Arsenale. La vista previa de la Prensa y Profesionales será el 5 y 6 de junio (estaremos allí!). Para ver la lista completa de participantes, mira aquí.

It's official, our work OostCampus will be part of the 14th Biennale di Architettura di Venezia. On this occasion, director Rem Koolhaas has set a theme that prioritizes the Fundamentals of Architecture, rather than celebrating the architects. Words like "floor", "roof", "corridor", "elevator" set the guidelines for each part of the exhibit, centred at the Arsenale but also housed in the national pavilions, most of which join forces for the first time in order to produce a coherent whole. OostCampus will be part of "interior", curated by Iñaki Abalos (Chair of Architecture at Harvard GSD) and housed in the Spanish pavilion. 

The 14th Biennale will run from Saturday 7 June to Sunday 23 November 2014 at the Giardini and the Arsenale. The preview for the Press and Professionals will be held on June 5th and 6th (we'll be there!). See the full list of participants here.

Another award for the OostCampus team!!!

Otro premio para el equipo OostCampus! Jan Compernol CEO de la ciudad de Oostkamp y Tom Vandenberghe secretario general de los servicios sociales de Oostkamp OCMW estuvieron en el Parlamento Flamenco de Bruselas el pasado jueves (30 Ene 2014) para recibir conjuntamente el premio "Líder Público del Año", por su visión al unir a todos los servicios de la ciudad en un solo entorno transparente, eficiente, fácil de usar.

Nuestro proyecto de arquitectura es la implementación de su visión política.

Felicidades Jan y Tom!! Gracias por vuestra visión!

Este premio va normalmente a ministros, altos funcionarios de la UE o de grandes ciudades como Amberes y es significativo que vaya a una pequeña entidad local; OostCampus se está convirtiendo en una construcción política de referencia!

Another award for the OostCampus team!!! Jan Compernol CEO of the City of Oostkamp and Tom Vandenberghe General Secretary of Oostkamp's social services OCMW were in Brussels's Flemish Parliament last Thursday (30 Jan 2014) to jointly receive the "Public Leader of the Year" award, for their vision to unite all services of the city into a single transparent, efficient, user-friendly environment.

Our architectural project is the implementation of their political vision.

Congratulations Jan and Tom!! Thank you for your vision! 

This award usually goes to Ministers, EU officials or big cities like Antwerp - it is remarkable to see it going to a small local authority - which shows that OostCampus is becoming a benchmark political construction!  

Nóg een onderscheiding voor het OostCampus team!!! Jan Compernol, Gemeentesecretaris van Oostkamp en Tom Vandenberghe, Secretaris van het OCMW Oostkamp, ontvingen vorige donderdag (30 Jan 2014) in Het Vlaams Parlement de prijs voor “Overheidsmanager van het jaar”. Dit voor hun visie om alle stadsdiensten onder te brengen in één transparante, efficiënte en gebruiksvriendelijke omgeving.
Ons architecturaal project is de verwezelijking van hun politieke visie. Onze felicitaties voor Jan en Tom! Ook dank voor jullie visie!
Deze onderscheiding wordt meestal uitgereikt aan Ministers, afgevaardigden van de EU of grote steden zoals Antwerpen. Het is dan ook opmerkelijk om te zien hoe het deze keer aan een kleine lokale overheid werd uitgereikt, wat aantoont dat Oostcampus een nieuwe maatstaf aan het worden is voor politieke constructies!

Nobelia

Nuestro principal proyecto en Ruanda está tomando forma. Después de ser aprobado por parte de la ciudad en septiembre pasado, y de preparar el terreno en noviembre, estamos trabajando intensamente para que la construcción pueda completarse antes de que termine el año 2017. 

Nobelia, la puerta de entrada al distrito de negocios de Kigali, será un complejo de 32.000 m2 con un centro peatonal y tres construcciones de diferente altura que servirán de sede a varias empresas importantes en Ruanda.
Las dos torres principales no necesitarán aire acondicionado: utilizaremos enfriamiento nocturno, y la sombra natural de las plantas trepadoras que crecerán en las pasarelas que circundan los volúmenes. Los marcos de las ventanas se harán con madera procedente de cultivos responsables del sur del país, para evitar las importaciones y crear know-how local. Nuestro objetivo es sustituir entre 30 y 60% del cemento de la estructura por cenizas volcánicas de extracción local. La flexibilidad es una característica principal del proyecto, para que el uso se puede adaptar con el tiempo.

Our main project in Rwanda is taking shape. After city pre-approval last September, and breaking the ground in November, we are moving at high speed so that construction may be finished before the end of 2017.

Nobelia, the Gateway to the Kigali Business District, will be a 32.000 sqm mixed-use complex with a pedestrian hub and three main constructions that will serve as headquarters to several major companies in Rwanda. The two main towers will not need air conditioning: we will use night cooling, and natural shade with local climbers growing on the catwalks that go around the façade. The window frames will be made with responsibly harvested local wood, to avoid imports and create local know-how. We are aiming at substituting between 30 and 60% of cement in the structure with active volcano ashes, found locally. Flexibility is a main feature of the design, so that use can be adapted over time.

Hace ya algún tiempo que construimos esta casa "casi invisible" sobre un cortijo Almeriense.
Ahora Miguel de Guzmán ha hecho este hermoso vídeo que muestra cómo funciona la arquitectura de las relaciones. La edificación no se impone es el flujo, el aire, la sombra, el sol, el agua, el espacio ...es una forma de vivir que encuentra su espacio.

We built this "almost invisible" house some time ago, around a renovated Andalusian farmhouse. 
Now Miguel de Guzmán has done this beautiful video showing how the architecture of relations works. It is all about the flow, the air, the shade, the sun, the water, the space... definitely not an imposing building but an impressive lifestyle.

Renovation of CC Westrand

Nuestro Plan Integral para la renovación de CC Westrand continúa su andadura!

Ya el pasado 20 de septiembre 2013 se inauguraron las primeras intervenciones, incluyendo el nuevo concepto de color, basado en los "Soft Pop Furnishings" originales de Hoppenbrouwers.

Más tarde, se ha añadido la colorida película traslucida de las ventanas que dan al sur-oeste y oeste, para reducir la ganancia solar y el resplandor en esas orientaciones lados.

Ahora estamos trabajando en la reorganización de los espacios interiores, moviendo las oficinas, incorporando los nuevos servicios que estarán bajo el mismo techo (sobre todo Cultura y Turismo y correspondiente Concejalía), y lo más importante: dar visibilidad a las muchas actividades que tienen lugar en el edificio. En la imagen superior, nuestra versión de "mobiliario blando pop" ya en uso en la mediateca! Hemos hecho diferentes formas para todas las edades y todos los estados de ánimo! Cada silueta, recortada en espuma bañada en goma, se toma de una pieza de mobiliario clásico (adivinas cuál es cuál?).

Our Masterplan for the renovation of CC Westrand is rolling!!

On the 20th September 2013 the first interventions were inaugurated, including the new colourful concept, based on Hoppenbrouwers original "Soft Pop Furnishing" that was supposed to inhabit the rocky landscape of the Cultural Centre.

Later, the colourful see-through film was added to the south-west and west windows, to reduce solar gains and glare on those sides.

We are now working on the reorganisation of the spaces inside, moving the offices, adding the new services that will be under the same roof (mainly the Culture and Tourism services and councellor), and most importantly, providing visibility to the many activities that take place in the building. In the picture above, our version of "soft pop furnishing" already in use in the media library! We have made different shapes for all ages and all moods! Each shape is taken from a classic piece of furniture and cut out in rubber-coated foam (can you guess which is which?).

OostCampus wins the Prijs Bouwmeester 2013 !!!

¡OostCampus ha ganado el Prijs Bouwmeester 2013 !!!!
Este premio, auspiciado por el Gobierno de Flandes, reconoce el trabajo de las administraciones públicas y semipúblicas y sus esfuerzos para construir arquitectura de alta calidad.
Hay tres categorías, y los ganadores de esta edición son:
Renovación:
>>>> OostCampus Ayuntamiento y Centro Cívico de Oostkamp (Carlos Arroyo)
Paisaje Urbano (ex-aequo):
>>>> Plan de renovación urbana de Deinze (UAP, Bas Smet y Robbrecht en Daem)

Vivienda colectiva: declarado desierto

This architectural award, granted by the Government of Flanders, acknowledges the vision of public and semi-public administrations and their efforts to commission high-quality architecture. 
There are three categories, and the winners of this edition are:

Urban Landscape (ex-aequo):

Master Plan for CC Westrand

La próxima semana, nuestro Plan Maestro para la renovación del Centro Cultural Westrand será debatido en público, junto con el Plan Director de CC Strombeek. Algunos elementos de nuestro diseño ya estarán implementados, y se inaugurarán en el mismo acto. Es el 40º aniversario del centro cultural, y la pasada primavera nos encargaron que trazaramos las directrices para los próximos 40 años!

Friday next week, our Master Plan for the renovation of CC Westrand will be discussed in public, together with the Master Plan for CC Strombeek. Some elements in our design will already be implemented, and will be unveiled on the occasion. It is the 40th anniversary of the building, and we were engaged last spring to draw the guidelines for the next 40 years!
